January 26, 2010 ~ Tuesday
Books are all DONE...either to the dump or the library or living in one of three bookcases. I figure I have about 2 years, 59 days, 2 hours and 13 1/2 minutes of reading to do...
33 more days and I'll be in Alaska!

My name is Diane and I am in the Fort Nelson area at this time. I get Google Alerts for Iskut, Dease Lake, Fort Nelson and a few other places, which is how I ended up here and noticed your picture of the abandoned lodge at 408. I've been in Northern BC for twenty years now, and that place was closed when I got here. It was the McDonald River Lodge and was run for a time by Ken and Willa McRae. When that lodge shut down, they bought the lodge at Steamboat mountain. They were getting up in years when I knew them, but they were really nice people. When they retired and headed for the city (I say city as they were both in poor health), they were unable to sell the lodge due to the economy crap.
Where are you at now Chrysa? Just looking at 2 years, 59 days, 2 hours and 13 1/2 of reading and 33 more days to Alaska. Now I'm just guessing here. School, Alberta, traveling?
I'm only in Fort Nelson until the end of winter then I'll be heading back up to my cabin on Telegraph Road which is in the Dease Lake/Cassiar district.

Talkeetna purchase

We bought land about 15 miles SW of Talkeetna, Alaska...on e-bay...sight unseen! in 2006. I probably wouldn't recommend doing that for everyone, but we were blessed it was legal...and now have good neighbors in the north, too. In fact, one of our neighbors built a 250 foot road with a turn-around into our place and we could stay on our land part of the summer. Of course, then there was the flood with the washing out of the only good road leading to Malispina Loop, so had to wait to start back to MT for a few days until that was repaired and we could retrieve our cargo trailer, since we had left it on our land while down on the Kenai.

Welcome to the travels of John and Chrysa

We leave on June 6th so are in the process of thinking about getting ready. Actually, I've had stacks here and there all winter, but don't know if that'll save me time or not. I have washed and waxed the fronts of the camper (slide-in with tip-out) and under the overhead so all the bugs we hit can have a spot now. It was fairly crowded before starting...but I always use 'Black streak remover'~ if you haven't tried it, do...it's awesome! I'm going to give getting pictures on here a whirl in the near future...just hoping it's nearer (didn't have problems) than farther (had problems) away.
